Kelly Rissman, a journalist from the United States, has posted a statement creating a buzz online. She posted this statement online after she thought some frauds scammed her. The scammers have linked her number to Google Voice to do scams with others.

The scammers have set a Google Voice Account using her number, and when they attempt to do scams with GV, the first person to contact for investigation will be Kelly and not the scammers. So, what does her statement ‘I Fell For A Google Voice Scam” means?

What is the Story All About?

Two weeks ago, Kelly was surprised when she saw her mobile with a text message from the resale application “OfferUp.” The statement reads, “Hi, is this still available.” She couldn’t suspect a person who is interested in buying her old apartment furniture.

They were scamming to get hold of her mobile number to set up Google Voice account as a real person. The message was sent by a woman in the United States named Jaree. As Kelly confirmed that furniture is available, she asked to share her phone number.

Now she confirmed that “I Fell For A Google Voice Scam” after sharing her number. She shared her number because the phone number and payment information on the application was verified. Jaree also had a profile picture and other details to make her seem legitimate.

Is Google Voice Scam Common with Others?

After evaluating, we found that many people other than Kelly are victim to this Google Voice Scam. Users have shared comments on discussion forum regarding the scam.

People are getting text messages and voice calls from 220-00 and asking them for the verification code to set-up Google Voice account.

Many people shared their number while some ignored the messages and calls.

When Kelly Posted “I Fell For A Google Voice Scam”?

Everything was going normal, and both Kelly and Jaree were exchanging messages via text and phone. But, when Jaree asked her to share the six-digit code she received, it causes suspicion in Kelly’s mind. The code arrived in text messages from “Google Voice.”

The message was from 220-00, and with a Google search, it was confirmed that the message was from Google. The scammer asked for the Google Voice code in broken English. Kelly didn’t bother to share the code.

She again received text messages in a row from Jaree, as if she copied the text and pasted it sloppily. At this moment of the ironic reality of the situation, she researched the scam and wrote: “I Fell For A Google Voice Scam.”

Conclusion

Being a journalist, she is still not aware of how she is scammed. All scams she investigated involve extracting the victim’s personal details like bank account details, address, and contact number.

In her case, the scammer only asked for a code and phone number, and it indicates that the scammer only wants a natural number to set up a Google Voice Account. So, it is referred to as Google Voice Scam.

It is the new kind of scam prevailing online, and users must stay alter of it. Do you have any idea about the “I Fell For A Google Voice Scam?” Please share your opinion in the comments section.
