Five of the Roomiest Modern Sedans {July 2021} Read It!

Five of the Roomiest Modern Sedans {July 2021} Read It! >> Despite losing a lot of attention in the USA due to the thriving popularity of SUVs and trucks, sedans are still favored by many and are certainly here to stay, at least for now.

Pickup trucks have and still are the best-selling vehicles in the USA, but SUVs are quickly catching up as more and more Americans begin to better perceive their well-rounded nature. Sedans have been around for longer than SUVs, however, and are the precursors to the eventual formation of crossover SUVs.

They’re proven cars and tend to stay relevant for longer in comparison to more modern types of cars, the Chrysler 300 having been around since 2008. They may not be as spacious, practical, or versatile as SUVs and trucks, but sedans are certainly still selling, and for good reason.

Is The Classic Sedan for you?

There’s a lot that sedans can offer with their long, three-box layouts, however, as with any type of vehicle, there are some drawbacks and compromises to consider, too:

Pros

  • Designed intrinsically for urban conditions
  • Fun and straightforward drive characteristics
  • Comfortable, practical, and safe daily’s
  • Better fuel economy than SUVs and trucks
  • Extensive variety of designs and configurations

Cons

  • Limited to just five or even four passengers
  • Not as spacious or practical as SUVs or trucks
  • Not capable off-roaders or workhorses

The Five Most Spacious Sedans

If you’re looking to purchase a new car and have your mind set on a sedan, here are five that are well-worth considering for their spacious and practical interiors:

  • Chrysler 300 – The 300 is still a good looking car considering it debuted all the way back in 2008, and though its cabin may look a little outdated, it’s still very commodious and packed with features. It’s offered with two powerful engine options, a 292 horsepower V6 and a 363 hp V8, the latter of which is standard in only the top-spec models. These are the 300’s standout qualities which together make it an almost nostalgic car to drive. This does, however, also mean that it has a few drawbacks such as a relatively bad gas mileage and a lack of modern driver-assist and safety features.

  • Kia Stinger – The Kia Stinger is a contemporary and fun-to-drive sedan boasting sporty looks, sporty drive dynamics, and plenty of creature comforts and conveniences. It’s a well-rounded offer with all those perks, perks that are met with a spacious cabin and a surprising amount of cargo space in the trunk. Kia offers the Stinger with a choice of three engines, two turbo-fours and a V6, with outputs ranging between 255 hp and 365 hp which are run to either a rear-wheel or all-wheel drivetrain. This is a car for the enthusiast with a budding family.
  • Genesis G80 – When it comes to premium sedans, the Genesis G80 punches above its weight and it lands its punches well. Performance from both of its powertrains, a 2.5-liter inline-4 and a 3.5-liter V6, is polished and balanced as the G80 always feels ready to go with potent yet smooth acceleration. It’s not a sporty or competitive sedan but one that prioritises an easy and utterly comfortable ride. Within its commodious and fanciful interior are oodles of advanced creature comforts, conveniences, and technologies including a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. For how much you get at its price, the G80 is a really high-value proposition.
  • Subaru Legacy – Unfortunately, the Subaru Legacy is a highly undervalued car as one that offers so much for relatively little money but has succumbed to more popular brands and the crossover SUV incursion. Yes, it may look a little boring but the Legacy isn’t all about looks, enter the cabin and you’ll find yourself immersed in a very modern, comfortable, and of course, expansive space brimming with modern tech and features. What’s most impressive is its extensive selection of inclusive driver-aids and safety systems. It’s, in fact, criticized for having too many advanced driver-assist systems, something that doesn’t happen everyday.
  • Volvo S90 – Speaking of being underappreciated and overbearing on safety, the Volvo S90 is a rather modest-looking cruiser not too common on the streets but a car that’s unconquered by any other when it comes to crashworthiness and safety. It’s a premium vehicle primed to deliver a tranquil ride experience for the whole family. It has a fancy and commodious cabin with loads of creature comforts, conveniences, and of course, tons of driver-assist technologies and active safety systems. It’s the perfect family sedan for those who prioritise safety above all else.

It’s clear that sedans still do have a lot to offer, but whether we’ll still have them around in the distant, or even not so distant future isn’t as clear-cut. We are beginning to see an influx of electrified sports cars, SUVs, and trucks, but not as many electrified sedans, and those that there are, are more representative of coupes rather than actual sedans with the three-box layout. This may be an indication that the body style is simply dying out, but it’s not something that’ll happen any time too soon.
